This page is dedicated to my ferret, Ferret. Yep that's his name. You will find a ton of pictures of Ferret. I also have a large section for perspective ferret owners....just answering some of the common questions about ferrets. I will address their history, grooming, training, games, food, their personalities and many more topics I'm sure. The last section is a list of some of the better ferret sites out there on the web. I had a two story cage made for him. The frame is made of steel, and the sides are half inch hardware cloth. I originally had a three story cage for him but he decided that it didn't matter if the litter box was on the bottom floor. He used the same corner as the litter box except he would be on the second or third level, which means a got to clean up a lot of messes. I eventually gave in and removed the third level. He has a bed, a hammock, food, water, a litter box, and all the toys he could ever want in the cage with him. I like to feed my ferret Totally Ferret food. You can get it throught the Jeffers Catologue. You can order the catalogue by calling 1-800-JEFFERS. Be sure to ask for the pet catalogue or you might get the farm animal catalogue. Some people feed their ferrets regular cat food, which I don't recommend. Ferrets require a high protein (38%) specialized diet and most cat/kitten foods don't meet the standards. Afterall, would you feed your cat dog food? I don't think so. As far as treats go the only thing my ferret likes so far is Ferretone and hair ball remover. Most ferrets like anything that is oily in texture. I've heard of ferrets eating bananas, cheerios, broccoli, apple sauce, salsa, chicken (cooked), and many other things. Most ferrets will do anything for a treat, but not mine. He's a picky eater. As far as toys go you just have to use your imagination. You can go to any local pet store and get all sorts of ferret toys, but why would you want to pay those outrageous prices. For instance go to your local hardware store and get dryer hosing and your ferret will burrow through the tunnels for hours. You can cut holes in old milk jugs and connect it to the end of the hose and create a maze for your furry friend. Just be careful not to give your ferret anything that they could potentially chew on and choke on. Stay away from soft rubber toys. Pieces can get lodged in the ferret's intestines and become deadly. They also love to play in a box or a bag filled with toys, paper, shoes, or anything to burrow around in. In the end your ferret will let you know what he likes playing with. Chances are his favorite toy will be something you never thought of. For instance my ferret, Ferret, loves to burrow in my shoes or dig in my backpack. Just be imaginative. | ![]() |
